Shasta was Alison's introduction to golden retrievers. Our dear girl had the nicknames Shasta McGasta and Shasta Distasta when she rolled in something gross and disgusting. She was taught from an early age not to carry socks and underwear around in her mouth, so when it came time at age four to do a little field training, she rightly said, "But Mom, you never wanted me to pick up anything before." She suffered through all those training mistakes that a newcomer to the sport of dogs makes and she came out shining. At age 10 she earned her TD title and then retired to the important job of couch warmer and companion extraordinaire.
We know we were fortunate to have her for almost 16 years, but her loss has been difficult and we miss her terribly.
