Caper was named for what she did to our house when we weren't paying attention. She is the class clown of our dogs, the escape artist, the creative mischief maker. It's hard to take her seriously. Happiest in a mud puddle or digging chipmunks out of the woodpile, fortunately she thinks obedience, tracking and birds are pretty neat, too. She won the 8-10 Veteran Bitch class at the 2002 National Specialty under breeder-judge Sandy Dunn and was thrilled to be back in the breed ring.
Once her mother finished her UD title, I took Caper, who had at that time earned her CDX, to my obedience trainer. She said, "Okay, show me what she knows." After heeling Caper around for a bit and tossing a dumbbell for her, my trainer exclaimed, "Alison, THIS is an OTCH dog!" I immediately protested that that wasn't on my list of things to do, but my trainer was insistent that this dog was indeed impressive. And at a month shy of eleven years young, she finished her OTCH, winning Utility B, Open B, High in Trial and High Combined on a most exciting day. She joins the ranks of an elite few goldens who have achieved both their breed and obedience trial championships.
Caper took up agility after her obedience career and earned four titles in quick succession. After her thirteenth birthday, we retired her from competition, but she is still very active - romping in the woods a few miles every day.
A GRCA Outstanding Dam, Caper's kids have earned the titles of CH, MH, CT, MACH and a host of other obedience, agility and field titles.
